WHY BLOGGING?
Let me explain why blogging is one of the single, most important things you can do for your business.
It makes you a teacher's pet. When you blog on your website, you are giving Google, Yahoo, and Bing fresh blood, which is how you become the teacher's pet. When you search for something on Google, you do what most people do. You type in the search box, hit enter, then you scroll past all the paid ads and make your way to the first or second result. If you are wasting money on Google ads, you should cancel them, and blog instead. Why? Because 95% of us skip PAST the paid ads to the organic ads. Do you know how you get to the top of the organic list? By having FRESH CONTENT ON YOUR WEBSITE with all kinds of keywords dropped into the blog. This is called search engine optimization or SEO. Each time a blog is added to your website, you are giving your site the opportunity for inbound links (links to your content from other sources) and are also adding indexable pages, which gives your brand/business yet ANOTHER chance to show up on search engines.
Connect with existing and new customers. Blogging is a way to give your customers a sneak peek into your thoughts. When your blogs are full of humor, not always business related, and down-to-earth, you are going to connect on levels the big box companies NEVER will. You don't want to put your customers to sleep explaining stuff they can read online doing their research....you want to tell them what YOU think and feel about specific topics. You want to share with them a hysterical story about your weekend. You want to tell them how YOU are just like them. You want to connect. When they trust you, they will trust your business.
Driving people to your website and get them to do the sharing work for you. Blogging is typically done through your website. If you are struggling to get people to come to your website, blogging is a GREAT way to do this. Once they are hooked, they will come back for every single blog you post. How do they know you are posting? You share the HECK out of it! That blog is posted on your site, then shared on your Facebook business page (where it is shared), LinkedIn (where it is shared), Insta (cute little link with hashtags), and to a couple of other selected spots. If the blog is good, they will always come back for more.
